You Again

Q: What’s the movie about?

A: A woman (Kristen Bell) goes home to her brother's wedding and finds out that he's marrying her high school nemesis (Odette Yustman).

Q: Who’s in the movie?

A: Kristen Bell, Odette Yustman, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sigourney Weaver, Jimmy Wolk, Betty White, Victor Garber, Kyle Bornheimer, Billy Unger, Sean Wing, Kristin Chenoweth

Q: Is this movie worth the price of admission?

A: PhotobucketProceed with Caution. This movie will be passable on video because Sigourney Weaver, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kristin Chenoweth are fun in it. Other than that it consists of a series of bad impulse decisions made by its characters, which sometimes lead to comedy, and sometimes lead to lame attempts at comedy. Hey, at least they tried...

Q: Will this movie make me laugh?

A: Maybe out of peer pressure.

Q: Will this movie make me cry?

A: If it could, it would have made me, because I was feeling extra sensitive, as proven by the fact that I nearly cried in the preview for Burlesque, simply from the sound of Christina Aguilera's amazing singing voice.

Q: Will this movie be up for any awards?

A: This may surprise you, but I'm gonna give Odette Yustman the Breakout Star of the Year Award. Her performance reminded me of early Rachel McAdams, and we've all seen what she's been able to do since then.

Q: How is the Acting?

A: Bottom line, Kristen Bell's agent should not have let her do this role. It makes her look less attractive than her buzz claims her to be, and after When in Rome, it's the second in a line of not very good romantic comedies, she's been expected to hold up. Granted, this one is a chef d'oeuvre in comparison.

Q: How is the Directing?

A: Andy Fickman's work hearkens back to absolutely nothing you'd remember having watched.

Q: How is the story/script?

A: Think Mean Girls: the Sequel, 10, 30, and 50 years later (keeping in mind that sequels are rarely as good as their originals). High school is over, but those old traumatic memories linger on... which is why it's a good policy to be stoned throughout high school. Take my word for it, you won't remember anything that happened!

Q: Is there anything else worth mentioning about the movie?

A: Is The Rock having a hard time getting hired these days? This movie has, like, the third single-scene cameo I've seen him play recently.

I Love You, Beth Cooper

Q: What’s the movie about?

A: The nerdy high school Valedictorian (Paul Rust) professes his love to the head cheerleader (Hayden Panettiere) during his commencement speech, and before he knows it, they are spending their celebratory graduation night getting to know each other.

Q: Who’s in the movie?

A: Paul Rust, Hayden Panettiere, Jack T. Carpenter, Lauren London, Lauren Storm, Shawn Roberts, Alan Ruck, Cynthia Stevenson, Andrea Savage,

Q: Is this movie worth the price of admission?

A: PhotobucketStop! This is the kind of movie that's only enjoyable when you accidentally catch it on cable television sometime between 2 and 4 in the morning, because it's light, cheesy, and unoriginal, and if you fall asleep watching it, you won't wake up wondering what you've missed.

Q: Will this movie make me laugh?

A: Yes, but not because it's funny. More because you're uncomfortable with how bad it is.

Q: Will this movie make me cry?

A: If you paid full price for it at the movie theater, like I did, it might. After all, we are in a recession, and money is not to be wasted.

Q: Will this movie be up for any awards?

A: Unfortunately, it's not quite high profile enough to be noticed by the Razzies.

Q: How is the Acting?

A: Some of the worst I've seen in a professional movie since the 80s. The actors, in particular Panettiere and her supposed boyfriend, played by Shawn Roberts, glare, and they stare, and they blow the house down. And I mean: blow! You actually feel bad for Cynthia Stevenson and Alan Ruck, who are quite good in their small roles, as the parents. Paul Rust does a decent job, too, in a role that was obviously written for Michael Cera, but he is no Michael Cera, and you leave the theater wishing he had been, because Michael Cera is magic. And he would've been the only chance this movie had of coming out from under this red light.

Q: How is the Directing?

A: Certainly nowhere near the best work of Chris Columbus, especially when you consider Mrs. Doubtfire, Home Alone, and discovering America.

Q: How is the story/script?

A: I spent most of the movie wondering how this script got greenlit. Was I just being bitter, because this same studio had passed on a script of mine, in the same genre, that was clearly funnier, more inventive, and better constructed? In my effort not to play the part of the ugly, angry screenwriter who's been scorned, I chose not to say anything out loud. So I was relieved and vindicated when we left the theater, and my friend, Ondrea, who is not even in show business, asked me "How can a movie like that get financed, when people like you are writing stuff that's so much better?" It was completely unsolicited. I swear to God. So I guess you really don't need over 10 years of experience in this business to know how messed up it is.

Fired Up!

Q: What’s the movie about?

A: Two high school football players (Nicholas D'Agasto and Eric Christian Olsen), decide that there will be more doable girls at cheer camp than at football camp, so they make up some lame excuses to cut out on one in favor of the other, and spend their summer spreading diseases. (Okay, so there's no mention of disease in the movie. I'm just prognosticating.)

Q: Who’s in the movie?

A: Nicholas D'Agasto, Eric Christian Olsen, Sarah Roemer, Molly Sims, David Walton, John Michael Higgins, Philip Baker Hall, Adhir Kalyan, Juliette Goglia, Jake Sandvig, Michael Blaiklock, Margo Harshman, Edie McClurg, AnnaLynne McCord, Danneel Harris

Q: Is this movie worth the price of admission?

A: PhotobucketProceed with Caution. We spend long months and sometimes years waiting for a movie of this sort to come out, but ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, that rare commodity, that special gem... It's finally here: a movie so bad that it's good!

Q: Will this movie make me laugh?

A: Every term you can think of for breast, butt, and [insert any sexual organ here] (I know) is pulled out of the gutter in this all out effort to pretend that women's lib never happened.

Q: Will this movie make me cry?

A: Well I cried when more than one man turned me down to see this movie over the weekend, because it was too stupid, and clearly for girls. And I cried again (this time with joy), when I arrived at a Tuesday night screening filled with exclusively men, secretly watching this movie with glee.

Q: Will this movie be up for any awards?

A: Yeah-- right!

Q: How is the Acting?

A: Sarah Roemer is a beauty who may not have the chops to pull off comedy. Eric Christian Olsen is clearly 10 years too old to play high school. And Nicholas D'Agasto is just right.

Q: How is the Directing?

A: This movie reminded me of one of those cheesy low budget movies you used to be able to find at 3am on the USA Network. Some might take that as an insult, but seriously, when was the last time you managed to turn one of those off before the clock hit 5am and you realized that you just got caught up in a total schlock-fest and loved every minute of it!

Q: How is the story/script?

A: It starts out at the bottom of the barrel, and painstakingly climbs its way up that barrel wall, until it ends, and you find yourself saying silly things like, "That was sweet."

Q: Where can I see the trailer?
