Just Go With It

Q: What’s the movie about?

A: A guy who pretends to be married to get girls (Adam Sandler) meets a woman he actually likes (Brooklyn Decker), and is forced to prove that he's getting divorced from his fake wife (Jennifer Aniston).

Q: Who’s in the movie?

A: Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston, Brooklyn Decker, Nick Swardson, Bailee Madison, Griffin Gluck, Nicole Kidman, Dave Matthews, Kevin Nealon, Rachel Dratch, Allen Covert, Dan Patrick, Minka Kelly

Q: Is this movie worth the price of admission?

A: PhotobucketProceed with Caution. The leads have amazing chemistry and we really believe all the reasons they need to end up together, but the set-up and the make-up are laughable.

Q: Will this movie make me laugh?

A: In the most random of places, hidden amongst the standard Sandler fare, are a few subtle clever moments that may induce laughter. What won't make you laugh is the standard Sandler fare, and everything Nick Swardson does.

Q: Will this movie make me cry?

A: No, but Dave Matthews does a thing with his ass that I can never unsee.

Q: Will this movie be up for any awards?

A: Title I'm Most Likely Not to be able to Recall in 2 Months, when Someone Asks Me What this Movie was Called.

Q: How is the Acting?

A: Jennifer Aniston blew my socks off in this role. Her comic timing is not a fluke. Nor, I might add, is that of Nicole Kidman, who really needs to do more funny roles, like this.

Q: How is the Directing?

A: Dennis Dugan directs almost all of Adam Sandler's films. And yet, with all that experience, his style never seems to improve.

Q: How is the story/script?

A: It's patchy. It has good parts, surrounded by tons of missed potential. But I personally love the message about why it's worthwhile to date women your own age.

Q: Is there anything else worth mentioning about the movie?

A: Off the top of my head, here are some better titles than Just Go With It:
--My Wife Wants Me to Marry You
--Everybody Lies
--Shooting a Movie is a Very Good Excuse to Go to Hawaii, Even When the Excuse Used to Get the Characters there is Ridiculously Unbelievable.

Four Lions

Q: What’s the movie about?

A: A group of British Jihadists prepare to blow themselves up, but based on their behavior, they could just as easily be preparing for a Vaudeville act starring Larry, Curly, and Mo.

Q: Who’s in the movie?

A: Riz Ahmed, Kayvan Novak, Nigel Lindsay, Arsher Ali, Adeel Akhtar, Preeya Kalidas, Julia Davis, Benedict Cumberbatch

Q: Is this movie worth the price of admission?

A: PhotobucketProceed with Caution. The idea behind the idea is pretty genius, once you're in on the joke, but it's really challenging to figure out the joke.

Q: Will this movie make me laugh?

A: If you can get past the language barrier, and the style of the humor, I'm pretty sure this movie is drop dead hilarious. As for me, I understood about every third word, despite it supposedly being in English.

Q: Will this movie make me cry?

A: The saddest thing about it is that many of the moronic things these would-be suicide bombers do and say are inspired by true events. Like the time the jihadist was on a bicycle, on his way to deliver a bomb, and he veered to avoid a pothole running right into a lamppost. Boom! True story.

Q: Will this movie be up for any awards?

A: The Wash Your Mouth Out with Soap Award. Thanks to this movie, prematurely exploding doesn't have to be sexual innuendo anymore!

Q: How is the Acting?

A: Nigel Lindsay stands out as being Ali G level funny. Kayvan Novak and Riz Ahmed have the looks to be big stars-- which isn't to say that they weren't funny as all Hell, too. And Julia Davis is just... wow, she has a timing all her own.

Q: How is the Directing?

A: The directing is one of the few aspects of the film that is totally amateurish. You rarely know where the characters are in relation to each other or the room, and the look is of embarrassingly low quality. Director Chris Morris comes from a TV background in Great Britain, which is notorious for putting shows on the air that look like they were shot on a 1980s camcorder... but the poor resolution may also have been due to the projection system in the dumpy rent-a-theater I saw it in.

Q: How is the story/script?

A: It's particularly hard to figure out if these guys are serious about martyring themselves, or if they're just making some kind of a film within a film about what it would be like if they were. That said, some of the dialogue is pretty brilliant. In a nonsensical way.

Sweetgrass

Q: What’s the movie about?

A: A documentary about the part of Brokeback Mountain that no one remembers: the sheep herding.

Q: Who’s in the movie?

A: The last cowboys in America. No, really, they were the last ones to ever do this particular sheep herding journey through Montana's Absaroka-Beartooth mountains. And by the way, they're not gay.

Q: Is this movie worth the price of admission?

A: PhotobucketStop! You're probably wondering why I went to a movie about sheep being herded, and the reason is, I have no idea.

Q: Will this movie make me laugh?

A: Some sheep sure do know how to deadpan! Which is just one example of how this film with almost no dialogue, and a lot of nothing going on, actually finds quite a bit of humor in even the most seemingly mundane aspects of the farm and the wilderness.

Q: Will this movie make me cry?

A: Sometimes you do feel really sorry for the sheep. Especially when they're just born, and are immediately dragged across the floor to be separated from their mommies. But also right after that, when they get other young lambs thrown on top of them, as they attempt to take their first breath of life.

Q: Will this movie be up for any awards?

A: As much as you're probably not going to like it, I wouldn't be surprised if the Awards givers do. Especially those Indy Spirit nominators.

Q: How is the Acting?

A: There is a young, dumb cowboy, who seems to have a vocabulary made up of only about ten words, nine of which are expletives, and the tenth of which is "the", and in one scene this macho-man's man breaks into tears about how awful this job is, as the camera pans the majestic scenery that surrounds him. Clearly the filmmaker is pointing out the irony, so even though he's crying, it's okay for you to laugh.

Q: How is the Directing?

A: I hate to say this about a film that is so slow and long for what it has to say but, the directing is truly excellent. Picturesque shots that don't move or change for up to 10 minutes at a time manage to hold your attention like some kind of meditation that has just been forced upon you.

Q: How is the story/script?

A: Aside from this depicting a piece of history that has recently (2003) become an obsolete practice, there is no story, and most of the dialogue sounds like, "Baaaaah"-- or some variation thereof. (I never realized before how often sheep Moo, like they're cows.)

Q: Is there anything else worth mentioning about the movie?

A: Getting sheared looks really relaxing. I would like to try that someday. Or maybe I could just get a massage.
